Land Cruiser 40, which has evolved significantly from the 20/30 series, such as steel doors

The predecessor model of the Land Cruiser 40 series is the Land Cruiser 20/30 series, which was produced from 1955 to 1960. For the short body, the Land Cruiser 20 series BJ25/FJ25 (V) will be replaced by the FJ40 (V), for the middle body, the Land Cruiser 20 series FJ28 (V) will be replaced by the FJ43, and for the long body, the Land Cruiser 30 series FJ35V will be replaced by the FJ45V.

The main changes to the exterior are the doors made of canvas instead of steel, the turn signals are now lamps, and the side mirrors are changed from the right door mirror to left and right fender mirrors.

Minor changes were not necessarily made to all models at the same time, as the timing of the specification change was based upon the production line, and the specifications were changed according to the delivery destination. There are some vehicles that these changes did not apply to.

Also, in the Land Cruiser 40 series, there are many common parts or parts that can be diverted even for models with different models and ages, and there are many cases where parts are interchanged regardless of the model or year. However, this is considered a plus when it comes to maintaining the Land Cruiser 40 in the future. If you don’t need OEM parts, it means that there is a great possibility of finding replacement parts years later.

The FJ40/43/45V engine inherits the 3.9-liter straight-6 OHV gasoline F-type engine that was installed in the Land Cruiser 20/30 series, the predecessor model. However, the specs are slightly different.
